Laid out on a steel plate prior to blowing, the pattern is fused to the surface of the glass when blown. The horizontal band is a hot wrap of yellow and orange glass chips applied to the surface of the piece. The artist engraves the piece, carving a vertical pass that reveals a yellow interior.
