シチリア島出身のデザイナー、マッテオ・グアルナッチャ（Matteo Guarnaccia）の作品集。作者は、自身のプロジェクト「CROSS CULTURAL CHAIRS」を通して、椅子によって社会的かつ文化的な差異を分析しより深く理解すべく、8カ月の間にブラジル、メキシコ、日本、インドネシア、中国、インド、ロシア、ナイジェリアを訪れています。そこでフィールド・リサーチを行い、それぞれの土地の椅子を観察し、現地のデザインスタジオや職人たちとの対話を通じて協力しながら、その地域の文化的背景を1脚の椅子で表現。本書では、路上やオフィス、住宅、店舗、工場、河川敷など、訪れた8ヶ国の様々なエリアでのリサーチの記録と、それらを通して新たに制作された8脚の椅子がまとめられています。人はどのように座り、座られるのか、椅子のデザインの人類学が記された一冊です。序文では、フォルマファンタズマ（Formafantasma）らのインタビューを収録。
