カール・アンドレ（1935–2024）は1960年代後半のアメリカを中心に興隆したミニマル・アートを代表する彫刻家です。日本の美術館において初めての個展となる本展は、同一の形と大きさに加工した木、金属、石を床に直接置き、規則的に広がるアンドレの典型的な彫刻作品を大きな空間で展開します。アンドレは自身の作品が、それが置かれる周りの空間に作用するものであることを「場としての彫刻」という言葉で表しています。

しかし、本を裏返して逆側から表紙を開くと、そこには幻想的なファッション作品が収録されており、先述のアート作品と、このファッション作品の間にあたるページでは両方の世界が交錯している。そこで境界線が崩れ落ち、それぞれの間にある共生関係が浮き彫りになるのである。
