その初期5号は、ヴィジュアル、タイポグラフィ、デザインの観点から「フォーマット」そのものを探求した、純粋な実験の記録です。現在の判型とは異なり、同じ服を異なるデザイナーが解釈する企画（第3号）、テキストを完全に排しクレジットを型押しで表現した号（第5号）など、毎号異なるアプローチで印刷物の既成概念に挑戦。各号ごとに、その後の展開の序章となる初期の探求の記録が収められています。
