Our black lacquer chest of drawers is a modern design - the Chinese did not use chests of drawers as we did in the west until quite recently - but the classic frame and panel joinery and circular brass handles are typical of traditional Chinese furniture

with a desk or as occasional chairs

These are known in Chinese as 'bawangcheng' (literally 'giants arm braces')

The frames are in solid reclaimed elm wood and bevelled, while the edges of the glass itself are also bevelled. The frame on the one shown here is finished black lacquer, decorated with gold leaf and paintings of flowers. Beautiful in the corner of a bedroom, they can also be wall mounted. Also available in red
